SAGE contributing to the SmartForest 2026 Conference

SAGE, a key contributing project to the SmartForest 2026 Conference

By Ramona Resch (wetransform) – Use Case: ForestDataSpace

The Forestry sector is undergoing a challenging transformation that requires far better data access and usage than in the past. SAGE Use Case 1 therefore aims to bring the Forest Data Space (FDS) initially deployed only to Germany, to all of Europe. A key part of any data ecosystem such as this one is to build up a network of organizations – a community!

SAGE and the Forest Data Space were therefore highly engaged in the SmartForest 2026 conference that saw almost 250 participants joining. In the two days in Freising, three SAGE partners (RDE, wetransform and CREAF) were present at the conference and contributed two presentations, one keynote, one world café and an entirely new format: a Data Ecosystem Laboratory! In the Data Ecosystem Laboratory, we presented several projects, including SAGE and InGeoDTM, as offerings, and asked participants to express what concrete needs and problems they have.

Particularly the latter allowed us to better understand real challenges that create friction in the forest community. Together with in-depth discussions on aspects such as AI data usage, this was a very helpful event for improving SAGE and the Forest Data Space.
